theBalm: Shady Lady Vol. 1 (Cheetah) Eyeshadow Palette Photos, Reveiw, & Swatches

This palette was the first purchase I made from theBalm, at the same time as Vol. 2 & Vol. 3. This comes with 9 complimentary shadows to create a variety of looks. Caught in the act courtney, jealous jordana, and risqué renee are also designed to work as liners. I really appreciate that there is a mix of neutrals along with a few green and blue hued colors. I was very pleased with the texture of the shadows; they were largely very soft and easy to blend, with just one exception. They lasted about 6-8 hours without creasing or showing signs of wear when paired with my Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

The colors are described on Nordstrom.com as:

– Caught-in-the-Act Courtney: a rich, warm brown with gold shimmer.
– Shameless Shana: a subtle bronze.
– Luscious Lani: a light metallic beige.
– Jealous Jordana: a deep emerald green.
– Risque Renee: a true navy blue.
– Curvy Cami: plum with gold shimmer.
– Jet-Setting Jennifer: a light olive-gold.
– All About Alex: a rich olive-green.
– Easy Wheezie: a light steel blue.

Top: caught in the act courtney, shameless shana, luscious lani
Middle: jealous jordana, risqué renee, curvy cami
Bottom: jet-setting jennifer, all about alex, easy wheezie

My favorite colors in the palette are jealous jordana  and jet-setting jennifer; one is a rich emerald-green and the other a beautiful shimmering champagne that are incredibly smooth with fantastic color payoff. Initially, the only shadow that I did not like with was the purple (curvy cami). Most of the colors were silky smooth, but curvy cami was powdery and somewhat crumbly on the first attempt, but I went back and tried it again and I had better success. Maybe the top layer was just dry, but given this experience, my suggestion would be to give any of these shadows a second chance if you are initially disappointed.

The mirror is a nice size, and the packaging is not bad. It looks like it would get beat up quickly and a couple of the pans stuck up out of the palette some, so I wasn’t very impressed with the presentation, but it was more durable than I expected.   The individual shady lady colors retail for $16.00 ea., so for $39.50, the palette is a great deal. Overall, I think this would be a nice palette to have if you are are looking for something with a little variety. I especially love all the green-toned shadows & I would likely purchase this again.
