“Cleopatra in New York” Inspired Look

Hi Everyone! I just got this gorgeous nail polish by Deborah Lippmann called “Cleopatra in New York”. It’s a beautiful black with Gold glitter that has an almost glassy finish; for a full review and more photos click here.

I loved it so much, I was inspired to do a makeup look to go with it, so here is the tutorial for what I did. I hope you like it! 🙂

1.) Prime lids & eyebrows with Urban Decay eyeshadow Primer Potion

– All eyeshadows are from the Urban Decay Vice Palette

2.) Press the color Blitz onto the inner 2/3 of the eyelid up to the natural crease (maybe a little above) using MAC’s flat all over eyeshadow brush # 252 (I think – I use it so much the number is worn off! lol)

3.) I had to add some blue into this look as a nod to the makeup Elizabeth Taylor wore in her role as Cleopatra, so I used the Sephora Professional angled eyeshadow brush to apply the color Unhinged on the outer 1/3 of eyelid.

I pressed the brush down on the outermost edge, making a line with the brush where I wanted the eyeshadow to end and blended in towards the middle.

4) Using the MAC 219 Pencil brush, make a very defined line with the color Black Marked just above the natural crease on the outer 2/3 of the eye.

5.) With the Sephora Professional domed #13 brush, use the color Echo Beach on tear duct, inner 1/3 of crease, and brow bone.

6.) Lightly blend to soften lines. I used the MAC 217 brush for this step.

7.) Using the LORAC front of the line PRO eyeliner, draw very defined eyeliner on both top and bottom lash line pointed up at outer corner, and pointed down at tear duct. Connect the top and bottom lines together at both ends.

8.) Use Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Perversion in the waterline and also to trace over the liquid line get a “blackest black” matte look. Don’t be afraid to make the eyeliner dramatic – this is inspired by Cleopatra after all! 🙂

9.) Fill in eyebrows if necessary to have a strong brow that won’t be overwhelmed with the bold eyeliner. I used NARS single eyeshadow in the color Bali with a double-sided Sephora eyebrow brush.

10.) Apply Mascara &/or False Lashes. I put on one coat of LORAC PRO mascar on my lashes, then attached Katy Perry “Oh, Honey!”  false lashes. Clean up any fallout under eyes.

Here is the look with the coat of LORAC mascara before I added false lashes:

And the finished product:

On Cheeks: Benefit Hoola bronzer under cheekbones for contour & NARS Luster blush on apples

On Lips: LORAC couture shine lip gloss in Vintage

  2. very nice look. you really look like Cleopatra 🙂 did you go out with this look or just did it like tutorial for us. i guess it would be perfect look for any party, i really like those colors you have chosen for this look

    1. Thank you so much! Unfortunately, i didn’t get to go out like this, I just did it for fun. This would be a great look if dressing up as Cleopatra though. You could even make it more exaggerated for costume wear, or tone it down for a regular day. I just loved this color combo too!
